Hillary and Dooce

A few weeks ago, I watched this

and to be honest
the shit gave me chills
The look on her face took me straight back to being a kid
and acting up in a store
and my Mom grabbing me and hissing something in my ear that made me
curl into myself with fear
nothing was more scary then a threat from Mom
nothing
not even Dad's air cooled paddle

In those eyes
I saw the unique strength of a woman
a woman that can put on lipstick and pearls
and check her butt size in a mirror
but can also endure 48 hours of labor
after ten months of pregnancy and sustain a human life directly after
all of that

Women, are unique in their strength
awe inspiring
often belittled for the choices they make
and the emotion that comes from such strength

Hillary, though I still haven't made up my mind
makes me raise my fist in the air and yell, "Hell yes sister," to my dogs while home alone.

I know many people criticized Hillary claiming (and I totally believed her)
she would take out Iran
but, the context was if Iran acted in aggression to one of our allies
if they try to nuke our friends we will eff them up
and you know what?
that's how I roll too

Further, had she said, "I'm not sure what I would do..."
or if she had stumbled around for an answer
the media would have accused her of being weak and somehow implied a gender issue
and she was basically damned if she did and damned if she didn't
(and please note I know full well her voting base happens to support the ally she'd nuke them over)

Here's the thing that gets me
it's not the men
I expect it
I expect to be called butch if I am strong
and be made fun of for being weak

But I don't expect my own gender to turn on me for either
I expect support
we are in this together
and as much as I think the Black on Black violence of the inner cities is such a shame
use that anger to rise above it like the Black Panthers
right?
but we as women do the same thing to each other in an emotional
not physical way
I'm not saying you have to vote for Hillary
I am saying don't join team keep the woman down
Are you surprised Hillary's lasted this long?
Shoot, she's had a baby
this
is cake
silly

and that brings me to a prime example of what I'm talking about
Dooce
if you are not a regular blogger
or have been like me
blogging under a rock for years and years
you might not know her story
long story short
she makes a ton of money blogging and she writes about her daughter
among other things
she is one of the famous bloggers who was fired for her blog
and turned her blog into a career

Recently
those of us known as Mommy bloggers have received a lot of attention
(and money)
and with fame and being the it thing comes the critics
fine
people think it's wrong to detail a child's life without the child's permission
or to make money off the child
or
or
or

fine have your opinion but I'm going to continue to express my love, frustration and fears for my children here
But when Dooce sits in front of Ms Kathie Lee
of," Hello aren't my children the cutest most brilliant funniest things in the world fame,"
and is told by said person
that Dooce talking about her daughter online makes Kathie Lee uncomfortable
I get angry
Kathie Lee, I heard every detail of your children's life
way more than I wanted to know
you put them on TV all the time
I saw Chastity's playhouse
I watched Cody throw a football around the backyard with his Dad
I am pretty sure you got some lucrative ad contracts from being on that show
talking about your kids
so tell me
what makes you uncomfortable about Dooce?

Why turn on your fellow woman like that?
Why make a comment (not Kathie Lee) about Hillary having hot flashes
or being an emotional woman
or not being womanly enough?
seriously
you don't have to vote for her
you don't have to like her
but you also don't have to use the one thing you do have in common with her
against her

and also
I am woman hear me roar

Excellent. Moms, women, bloggers -- power to the voices!

Unrelated: I just figured out that you and I live in the same state, probably not too far apart since you work at Tiff's bar -- small world, huh?

Wonderful post!! Now I have to admit I am not a fan of Hillary Clinton. But if I choose not to vote for her (and my mind still isn't made up), it has NOTHING to do with her gender. And what really riles me up is the people (not you, of course) who assume I will vote for her simply because we share the same reproductive organs. That's bogus. I will vote for her IF I believe she is the right person for the job; that's what matters most to me.
